Prof. Juei-Cheng Jao has been dedicated to the research of maritime law for many years and his ability has been affirmed in the field and further evidenced by the publication of the monograph ’Maritime Law’ in 2018 by San Min Publisher Co., Ltd which is the largest academic publisher in Taiwan. He put some thought of its first kind in Taiwan and initiated in this book that teaching, research, development, and legislative and judicial policy of maritime law must, in addition to national marine policy, take international law nature into serious account despite the classical view that maritime law is a branch of civil law.
Prof. Jao has taken the lead of the Taiwan Maritime Law Association by sitting on the Chair since May 2019 and in the same year elected and appointed as the Dean of the College of Ocean Law & Policy, National Taiwan Ocean University which is the authoritative and the-right-to-speak law school in Taiwan and has been making every effort to promote the level of maritime law to that in accordance of national development. Beyond this, he continues to initiate the maritime legal strategy and ocean rights of development supporting the sovereign Oceanic State Taiwan and try actively to establish an international ocean law and policy forum to represent the social responsibility of a law school and a professional civil association.
